New Meat Processing Facility for Pickstock Ashby Ltd

Pickstock Ashby Ltd has started construction on a new meat processing facility at Hortonwood, Telford, following the grant of detailed planning permission in December last year. The development consists of an 85,000 sq.ft. site which will create up to 165 new jobs for the local economy. It is expected to be open for business by the end of July 2013 and represents a significant investment for the Midland based company.

The relocation of the abattoir will support the company’s expansion, securing its future and continual growth. The company has shown strong growth over the last 5 years and now supplies over 20 different countries including several outside of Europe, with over 80% of its annual product going to export.

The company’s success in exporting to overseas markets was recently recognised when they were ranked 36 out of 200 companies shortlisted for the Sunday Times Fast Track International 200 Awards.

Greg Pickstock Managing Director of Pickstock Ashby Ltd confirmed “Our building contractors made a start on site earlier this month and are working towards completing the new facility within a six month build programme.”

“We are looking forward to the new facility being open before the end of July and anticipate recruiting staff from the Telford area in the April/May to allow training to take place before the facility becomes fully operational.”

The new abattoir will have controlled access for the livestock to be delivered to the facility and will be open from 7am until 5pm Monday – Friday. The proposals will also include building a two-storey detached office, a steel-framed building to house to main facility, a detached lairage office, car parking and service yards.

Pickstock Ashby offers a comprehensive range of high quality meat products, from full carcass to primal cuts, all of which are produced to the customer’s individual specification. The company takes pride in serving the market with the widest possible range of beef choices. All cattle are sourced by the company’s own procurement staff, dealing directly with farmers, markets and procurement groups.

The abattoir will be built by Pickstock Construction, a member of the Pickstock Group of companies. The Pickstock Group is an international group of companies with interests in construction, property, investment, food processing and manufacturing.
