Project Title: | 85,000 sqft Meat Processing Facility |
Project Size: | 85,000 sqft |
Project Solution: | Construction |
The Client: | Pickstock Telford |
Pickstock Construction has delivered a new meat processing facility to Pickstock Telford Ltd, located in Hortonwood, Telford.
Pickstock Construction started on site in January of 2013 with the ground preparation works. In addition to the main facility, Pickstock Construction also built a separate office building, service yard and car parking. The plant began operation a year later in January 2014.
Pickstock Construction worked alongside J-Ross Developments Ltd and Pickstock Telford to develop, design and build the 85,000sq ft state of the art facility.
The facility is the latest of its kind in the country and one of the only plants in Europe to have every process under its 85,000sq ft roof from the lairage, to the meat processing facility, butchery hall, on‐site cold stores, packaging and despatch.
Pickstock Construction worked hard to ensure that the new facility had all of the unique state of the art features specified by Pickstock Telford, in order to enhance its efficient process.
In such a highly regulated industry as food processing, JR Pickstock worked very closely with Pickstock Telford and regulatory bodies to ensure material specification was to exacting standards. JR Pickstock dealt with complex ground works and detailed plans to fit with machinery and processes.
Pickstock Construction helped to ensure that every possible environmental improvement could be made at the plant. Everything has been constructed with sustainability in mind, with heat exchange systems running off the refrigeration system and air compressors, along with a full rain water harvesting system.
Pickstock Telford’s main priority is that of animal welfare and traceability. With this in mind, Pickstock Construction built a lairage which was designed to replicate the animal’s natural environment. It was built to be well‐ventilated, with plenty natural light, creating a stress free environment for the animals. Every last detail within the lairage was also designed and built to the highest standard to ensure staff safety.
