Project Title: | St Mark’s Street, Lincoln |
Project Size: | 120 Student Rooms |
Project Solution: | Room Module |
The Client: | Private Investor |
Pickstock Construction has delivered a 120 room student accommodation scheme for a private investor client, providing high quality student accommodation on St Mark Street, Lincoln, close to the Lincoln University Campus and City Centre. The rooms have been rented out to both undergraduate and postgraduate students studying at the University.
The scheme was delivered by The Pickstock Group as a turn-key solution with Pickstock Construction acting as the main contractor to complete the traditional elements of the construction works.
Elements Europe manufactured the fully volumetric Room Pod modules off-site at their factory in Shropshire. Room Pods manufactured for this project included en-suite rooms and studios. In addition Elements Europe also manufactured common rooms, staircases, corridors and roof structure.
Pickstock Construction also built a coffee shop and launderette for the development to offer students all of the amenities they need under one roof.
The building was in a very constrained position, situated between two buildings closed in at three sides, making the scheme a challenging project.
Work on-site started in April 2013, with a construction programme which was completed in time for the September 2013 intake. The project was completed in just 24 weeks by implementing Elements Europe’s off site building systems. This programme would not have been achievable if traditional construction methods were used.
The University of Lincoln was founded in 1992 and has seen its students numbers rapidly increase from 2,000 to 11,000 students. This has resulted in a high demand for new, good quality student accommodation.
